Adventures that I have had and places throughout the world that I have journeyed to up to now:

- Right after finishing University I worked my way around the Bahamas and Caribbean on a cruise ship for a couple of months and had the opportunity to visit 11 different islands.
- Swam with stingrays at Sting-ray City in the Caribbean.
- Drove down the Mexican coast of Cozumel on a moped.
- Walked up the stairs of the Aztec ruins in Belize.
- Stood on Times Square in New York.
- Took the ferry in New York over to Staten Island to see the Statue of Liberty.
- Walked across London Bridge and watched the changing of the guards in front of Buckingham Palace.
- Went all the way to the top of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London and nearly got blown away by the strong wind up there.
- Went into Westminster Abbey the English Gothic Cathedral in London.
- Shopped till I dropped in London’s Camden Town and Notting Hill, Portobello Market, England.
- Went punting on the canals through Cambridge.
- Checked out where the Queen spends her winters at Sandringham house in the North-East of England.
- Dipped my feet into the Roman Baths in Bath, England.
- Stonehenge is still mystical and mysterious even though the highway now runs past it.
- A Cathedral that is definitely a must see is York Minster in York, England.
- Searched through Canterbury Cathedral to find the spot where the priest, Thomas Becket, was assassinated, England.
- Watched a show on the West End in London(Wicked and Blood Brothers, they were both excellent!), England
- Walked through the Harry Potter dining hall at Christ Church in Oxford, England.
- Spent New Years in Edinburgh at the famous Hogmany festival.
- Got to walk through Edinburgh castle before explring the famous haunted Mary’s close in Scotland.
- Sat in the Scottish Highlands next to Loch Ness searching for the monster.
- Backpacked through Spain and Portugal.
- Took part in the Bull Run at Pamplona, Spain.
- Visited the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and fell in love with the art of Gaudi.
- Got to relax in the mosaic filled Parc guell in Barcelone, Spain.
- Fell in love with Barcelona, the art, people and definitely the seafood paella.
- Went to Figueres, Spain to visit the museum built by Salvador Dali.
- The Alhambra in Grenada, Spain took my breath away!!
- Had way too much port in Porto.
- Had a snowball fight next to the Eiffel tower in Paris and stuffed myself with chocolate crepes.
- Walked through the Notre Dame and visited the Louver Museum in Paris.
- Had my morning coffee at Mont Matre, while watching the artists at work in Paris, France.
- Had a break in Egypt where I saw the sun come up over the Valley of Kings and Queens in a hot air balloon.
- Got harassed while trying to explore the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
- Cruised down the Nile from Luxor down to Aswan.
- Desecrated the Karnack Temple in Egypt when I got sick all over one of the altars and got escorted out and banned from the temple.
- Duck and dived the traffic with my bright yellow Honda cup motorbike and enjoyed the sunshine in Saigon, Vietnam where I lived for a year.
- Hiked through the valleys and rice-paddies of Sa Pa, Vietnam.
- Cruised and canoed among the Dragon cliffs of Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, one of the seven natural wonders.
- Journeyed along the Mekong Delta River from Saigon all the way to Cambodia with my mom.
- A romantic retreat away from the chaos of Saigon was the City of Love, Dalat in Vietnam.
- Ate fried scorpions and grasshoppers in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.
- Got lost while exploring Angor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia while drinking cafe sau da.
- Got really depressed after visiting the Killing Fields of Cambodia in Phnom Penh.
- Made a pit stop in South Korea to taste kim chi and eat live octopus.
- Ubud, the heart of Bali’s artistic heritage with art everywhere was a very special outing.
- White river rafted through the rivers of Bali and quad biked through its beautiful rice paddies.
- Live in Tokyo, Japan for 6 months and arrived just as the Cherry blossoms welcomed in spring.
- Stalked the geisha in Kyoto, Japan while exploring all the glorious temples it has to offer.
- Went to Hiroshima for a sad memorial service where I was reminded once again how cruel people can be towards each other.
- Ayuthaya with its magnificent Wat Arun is a must visit when in Thailand.
- Had a real Thai Massage and patted a tiger in Bangkok, Thailand.
- Experienced the fampous floating markets of Thailand
- Got to meet the woman of the Hill Tribes of Northern Thailand in Chiang Mai.
- Lived in UAE exploring the desert for a while, even rode on a camel!
- Burned my feet on the hot Dubai sea sand with the 56-story Burj Al Arab behind me!!
- Had my full of baklava in Turkey while walking through the Hagia Sophia.
- Loved exploring the Roman Ruins of Ephesus in Turkey.
- Bought way too much at the Covered Market in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Swam in the beautiful hot springs of the geological fairyland of Pamukkale, Turkey.
- Took a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the sculpted and surrealistic landscape of Cappadocia, Turkey.
- I walked along the Via Dalarosa and explored the whole Old City in Jerusalem, Israel during Christmas.
- Stood in the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem on Christmas eve.
- Walked across the Red Square and explored the Kremlin in Moscow!!
- Visited the Famous St Basils Cathedral and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.
- Learnt to ice-skate and stood on a frozen river in Russia!!!
- Experienced the famous White Nights of Saint Petersburg, Moscow.
- Watched Romeo and Juliet ballet in the Bolshoi theater in Moscow, Russia.
- Stood on the mosaic floor of the Cathedral of Spilled Blood in Saint Petersburg, Moscow.
- Visited Peterhof with its stunning fountains and walked through Pavlovsk the biggest park even in Europe, in Saint Petersburg, Moscow.
- The magnificent Forbidden City with its fast halls and pavilions in Beijing, China kept me busy for hours!!
- The Great Wall of China was definitely a highlight in all my travels and I will never forget the experience of walking along this wall!!!
- Had the best bubble tea in Hong Kong with my mom!!
- Got to drink Flower tea in the oldes tea house of Shanghai, China
- Cruised through the magnificent Gorges on the Yangtze River in China.
- Stood in front of the sensational Terra-Cotta Warriors of Xian in China.
- Stood at the top of Table Mountain looking out over Cape Town, South Africa.
- Crawled through the stunning Cango Caves in the heat of Oudtshoorn, South-Africa.
- Drove the scenic Garden Route of the Cape region, South-Africa.
- Saw WHITE Lions and tigers at the Cango Wildlife Ranch in South-Africa.
- Climbed to the top of the Santa Lucia Hill for a panoramic view if Santiago in Chile!!
- Stood on a mountain top in the Andes 3030 meters above sea-level.
- Walked through the winding streets between the colourful houses of Valparaiso in Chile!
- Drank Chilean boutique wine on Casablanca vineyard in Chile!
- Felt an earthquake in Santiago, Chile!
- Stood on top of San Cristobel hill next to the huge statue of the Virgin in the middle of Santiago!
- Drank a Terremotto, “earthquake” in La Piojera the oldest traditional pub restaurant in Santiago!
- Went wine tasting in Stellenbosch, South-Africa.
- Got to walk the “boomslang” canopy above the trees at Kirstenbosch, a famous botanical garden nestled at the eastern foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South-Africa
- Got to feed an Albino squirrel in the beautiful Companje Gardens in the heatr of cape Town, South-Africa
- Went on Safari in Timbavati Nature Reserve in South-Africa

Hey Janaline! Brilliant post! Is there a way I can get some more info about your trips? About funding etc etc? I am thinking of embarking on a world journey and I must check what the running costs are!

Thanks… will go and fix that one. I taught English as a foreign language in a lot of countries and would save up and go travelling during the summer holidays, then go back to work as soon as I am broke….
