My favourite photos are the ones where you got to make a connection with the place or person. While walking through a park here in Shanghai I was surprised at how many people were willing to let me take their photo once I asked. My favourite group of photos from the day is of the park gardner. Eventhough we could not understand each other he smiled and allowed me to take his photo. After taking his photo he came and asked me to please take a photo of him and his friend.

Peace begins with a smile. Smile is a simple act, but sometimes takes a lot of effort. A smile can cause boundaries to melt, hearts to warm up, and distances to reduce. (Mother Teresa)

A couple of days later I tracked him down again in the same park to give him the photos that I had taken. It made him smile and he imediately went to track down his friend to give him his copy of their photo together.
I hadn’t realised that you have actually moved to Shangai! Wow! It looks as though you are enjoying it, what job did you end up getting? I would be put off by all the people there, but you look in your element 🙂

Hallo there Jude. Yes, I have moved to Shanghai, teaching middle school English. The city is fabulous as long as you avoid all the crowded areas. I live in one of the quieter suburbs of Shanghai and just make sure I stay out of the city center on any public holidays. The backsteeets and alleys and parks are so much better to explore anyway- a true taste of life in China!! Hope you have a great week!!

Some lovely candid photos there. I always feel a bit guilty when I take these sorts of photos without permission, but they have such a relaxed quality. Thanks for sharing, Mel

I agree, I also feel super guilty. So I am working on asking permision, and find if you ask a couple of questions, and talk to the people before asking it is a lot easier. Working on this and will hopefully get a bit more confident later on
