No visit to Dublin would be complete without a walk through the famous temple bar district. Temple Bar is a busy riverside neighbourhood located beside the Liffey, spread over cobbled pedestrian lanes.
The Quays is a pub based on the old Irish tradition of ‘craic agus ceoil’ (fun and music).

Approaching the district we crossed the Liffey on the Ha’penny Bridge to reach the Merchant’s Arch through which walk right into this riverside neighbourhood. The Ha’Penny Bridge is Dublin’s oldest pedestrian crossing over the river Liffey
The Temple Bar is one of the most famous pubs in Dublin.
The area thus became known as Temple’s Barr (A ‘Barr’ was a raised estuary sandbank often used for walking on).
It’s history goes back to 1599 when Sir William Temple, a renowned teacher and philosopher, built his house and gardens here on newly reclaimed land around Temple Bar.

The Temple Bar has 450 bottles of rare and interesting whiskeys gathered for decades from all over the world and is Ireland’s largest collection.
As we walked through the cobbled lanes of the neighbourhood it was hard not to notice that you can literally step out of one pub and straight into the next one without as much as hitting the pavement in between. Lively markets and boutiques fill the cobbled lanes and alleys of the Temple Bar quarter with life during the day. At night, the area turns into a heaving throng of pleasure seekers crowding the pubs that host live folk music, or strengthening themselves at one of Temple Bar’s many eateries.

To skip the crowds we bought some take away and sat next to the Liffey enjoying the atmosphere of this district.
The Oliver St. John Gogarty hostel is situated in the heart of Dublin’s cultural quarter, Temple Bar.

Temple bar is located on the Southbank of the River Liffey. It is one of the oldest areas in Dublin
Temple Bar district is definitely a cultural melting pot with an Irish flavour at its heart.
Temple Bar is found in central Dublin on the south bank of the Liffey.
The Celtic Lodge is a 2-star guesthouse located in the heart of Dublin, just a 5-minute walk from Connolly Train Station and Bus Aras bus station.
Just incase you would prefer a coffee above a beer!

Hello. Whiskey, Food, Music. These four words pretty much sum up what we are about.
I was in Dublin years ago as my uncle was teaching at a local university on a fellowship. I loved this section of town! I just heard we are getting a direct flight from Minneapolis to Dublin so perhaps I will have to revisit!
Oh wow, I love it when a city gets new flight routes, they always have great specials to celebrate!! So hopefully you will get the chance to walk these cobble street again soon.
