During our Portugal trip we spent a night in Coimbra, a riverfront city. It is home to a preserved medieval old town and the historic University of Coimbra which was built on the grounds of a former palace.
Conímbriga is one of the largest Roman settlements excavated in Portugal, and was classified as a National Monument in 1910.
I didn’t realise how many steps there are, Janaline. Half of Portugal seems to be built on a hill 🙂 🙂 Or several! On my list for my next trip north. Hope you had a good Christmas and very best wishes to you for 2018,
Thank you Jo!! Best wishes for 2018!
I do remember that I climbed loads of steps in Portugal and that the city Porto had not only hundreds of steps, but also very, very steep hills that we had to climb out every day,
Coimbra is a magical place. So much history, culture and music. I did a fabulous walking tour with a university student. The best three hours and a great way to get behind the scenes in Coimbra. Thanks for bringing back so many happy memories. Mel
That is fabulous Mel!! I also remember that it is in Coimbra that I had the best Portuguese food and the poeple were so friendly I can’t wait to go back.

It is such a beautiful city, and not as touristy as the other cities as it is a university city off the beaten path.

It is very lovely. Quiet and not too touristy as it is not one of the main cities people usually go and visit.
