Underneath one of the castle’s archways at the Castle of Good Hope in cape own, South Africa the pathway is not cobblestone but actually yellowwood bricks that were tarred together . This was done in an attempt to soften the passing of man and horse in the early hours of the morning so as not to wake the resident commander at the time.
