My favourite piece of art by South African artist Angus van Zyl Taylor is definitely his piece named “From Water, From Earth”. This piece of art has become the signature of Saronsberg wine farm in Tulbagh. Even if you are not a wine lover, you will find Saronsberg intriguing. It has a huge selection of South African art and the setting just adds to the magic of each piece.
Angus van Zyl Taylor runs his own foundry in Pretoria and has completed numerous commissions for private collectors as well as public institutions. He loves doing pieces on big scale and Saronsberg wine estate owns a couple of his art pieces. He works in a variety of mediums from granite or bronze, to rock and other natural materials to create very unique sculptures.
We stopped at Saronsberg wine farm early morning while exploring the Western Cape wine route. Next time I would like to come by a bit later in the day, so that I can try out their wine aswell. I think a stop here in the summer months will be magical, as you can sit outside, surrounded by mountains and art, while enjoying a glass of wine.
