I haven’t visited Cape Town in more that 5 years and haven’t seen my family in nearly 2 years so I was super excited at going to Cape town on holiday and staying with my family for a while. My uncle and aunt live in Stellenbosch on a small vineyard. My aunt also turned part of the family house into a guesthouse and this is where my brother and I would stay for a couple of days.
They live about 30 minutes’ drive from Cape Town International Airport and it was quite easy to find. It lies between strawberry farms and vineyards so the area was beautiful to drive through. My aunt named the vineyard Aan de Vliet and it is nestled at the foothills of the Stellenbosch Mountain.
As soon as we arrived I felt like I was far away from everything especially the rushed feeling of the city that was actually very close by. The small farm definitely offered me a refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and gave me loads of time to just be quiet and with nature.
The small family vineyard has a country farm atmosphere with beautiful panoramic views over the vineyards and mountains. Aan de Vliet was definitely the ideal base from which to explore the beauty of the Western Cape.
One of the first things I did after arriving and greeting everyone was to go for a walk through the lovely gardens and vineyard that is situated in front of the big family house. Standing in the vineyard looking out over the mountains I felt as if my holiday has actually started and that I can now start relaxing!
It was lovely to get to spend some time with my family and get to know them again while enjoying a glass of their vineyards wine!
